Blender fire by MrSide Blender fire by MrSide
>>> link to animation : [link] <<<

So here's some fire I made with the blender's smoke simulator.

I was aiming to make a realist flamethrower like this : [link] . You can see that I'm still far from the reference image but I think the final result is pretty cool and I've learn a lot on the smoke simulator while working on it. I also wanted to make the fire move around but I had some problems while moving it and I was a bit tired of baking/rendering/modifying some settings and start baking again so I let it still.

I'm currently working on a video to show anyone who's interested all the test renders I have made on almost all the settings, one at a time. I hope to be releasing this video today and I'll post it on my journal as well as in this deviation. Be sure to take a look.

Your critics are welcomed, have a great day.^^

EDIT : The video will wait for next Monday. sorry about that.

Critic:

The light from the fire isn't quite right... Fires don't cast perfect lighting/shadows, but usually because of their movement/varying shape, the lighting changes often...

Hm... maybe this could be achieve with a procedural texture on the lamps. Thanks I'll try this out when I'll do fire again.

I'm thinking the fire material has emissions things in it, doesn't it? I haven't experimented much with it yet, but I remember that being in the volumetric settings...

You could probably convert the voxel data into lighting information for a texture, then use the random modifier in the graph/curve editor to create the slight flicker..

Hm... I don't really know but I'll poke around next time I do fire. If it could be done, it would be awesome.

The video looks great.
I don't have much experience with this kind of stuff in blender, so any chance you could share the blend so I can get an idea? :)

Sure but I don't think you will find how things work just by looking at my scene. I recommend you to look at this tutorial [link] to have much more explanations on it. However, if you'd still like to take a look at my blend file, just tell my how I can send it to you and I'll do it. =P
